Recent Projects:

I always like to feature a few recently completed projects. My brother celebrated his 30th birthday last week, and this seemed like a great occasion to surprise him with a 12×12″ album of family photos featuring HIM!

With September comes the beginning of school. My friend Carrie found this fun idea to commemorate your child’s first day of school with this simple one-page 12×12″ scrap page project. I did one for each of my kiddos. Once I receive the published pages in the mail, I will have them sign their name at the bottom to show their “signature” at this age/grade. Such a cute and simple idea. This project just took a few minutes.

And here is a Square Flip Book project I created as a gift for great-grandma’s birthday. This project size is perfect as a “brag book” that easily tucks inside a purse.

September-October Digicrops:

At my aunt’s request, I designed a graduation announcement featuring the professional photos they recently had taken. I used the 5×7″ invitation which is double-sided. We direct-shipped these to their friends and family.

Here’s another project made by my Nanna (grandmother) as a gift to my cousin for his 18th birthday. This project uses the wire-bound Flip Book (5-3/4″x3-1/2″) and makes for a great, inexpensive, personalized gift!

And lastly, a custom birthday card for my beloved Auntie (who LOVES to garden!).

The Chicken and the Eggs

Some of you may have heard that we have a half dozen adorable little chicks running around in our backyard – but perhaps I’m getting ahead of myself! Back in early May, we were very sad to lose the last of our original four chickens. She was “egg-bound” and we weren’t able to help or save her. As sad as that was, the situation provided the opportunity to try something we never expected to do. Upon explaining the loss of the chicken to our CSA farmer, Juvencio, he suggested that we try hatching some chicks of our own. The boys LOVED this idea, so we ended up taking home a dozen (likely fertile) eggs from the farm. That was on May 6th… Juvencio told us to expect the eggs to incubate for 22 days, so we marked our calendars for Memorial Day (May 28th). Fortunately, our hen called Pepper has always shown an interest in sitting on eggs and has regularly tried to “go broody” as long as we’ve had her. When we came home with the fertile eggs and began to place them under her, you could see the excitement and disbelief in her eyes as she gratefully accepted all twelve and gingerly tucked each one safely under her. The next morning we discovered two eggs had been crushed, though we don’t know how or why, so we were down to ten eggs. There she sat for 20 days. When Ayden came in from letting the chickens out of the coop on Saturday, May 26th (two days before schedule) claiming that he could hear “cheeping” coming from under Pepper, we were sure he must have been imagining things. We all dressed and headed out to the coop where, sure enough, the first chick was huddled among her un-hatched siblings. The rest of the eggs hatched the next day, but for two – one which we assume was not a fertilized egg after all, and one who never quite made it fully out of the egg before the membrane dried out and essentially trapped her inside. :( So we were down to eight hatched chicks. Two more unfortunately didn’t make it through their first two days, likely having been stepped on by Pepper (we assume on accident!). So six remain. These little chicks are an absolute delight to have gracing our garden. They have been the source of much excitement, photo opportunities, and the reason for many, many additional visitors to our back garden. You can enjoy the pictures of their first week of life in the following two galleries:
New Chicks Gallery
Backyard Chicks Gallery
So now the waiting game is well under way… who will be a hen, and who will be a rooster? Our farmer friend tells us that the way to figure this out on the farm is to wait until the first morning your hear that classic “cocka-doodle-doo!” and run outside to see who it was! This should happen around the two-month mark. Until then, we’ll enjoy their antics and unbearable cuteness. Ultimately, we will keep but two hens (assuming there are two!) and the rest will go back to the farm to live out their days. Stay tuned!

Spring 2012 Price Adjustments (went into effect April 17, 2012):

March Heritage Makers Newsletter & Digicrop Dates

With the glorious sun making her appearance this afternoon, I’m feeling like Spring is in the air! So, on with the show…

NEW STUDIO FEATURE: Button to remove all “Double Click Here to Edit” boxes in a project!

In Studio, if you drag a text box onto the page but do not enter text into that placeholder, you will be notified of this situation when you go to publish the final project. These “Double Click Here to Edit” placeholders may be hidden underneath other items making them hard to find. In other cases, you just might not be able to see them easily as you flip through your pages. Studio lets you know about them because if they are visible on the layout, they will appear on your finished project.

Good news! There is now an “easy button” that automatically removes all Double Click Here to Edit occurrences (if and only if it has the default text “Double Click Here to Edit”). You’ll see this link when you get to the page where you confirm that your project is complete.

Clicking the link to clean up your finished project means you are allowing Heritage Makers to alter your project and remove items. It’s best to go through your layout and make the appropriate edits individually. But if you’ve done that and can’t seem to find one or more of the reported occurrences, go ahead and use this new feature.

Note: After clicking the “Remove” link, page previews might still show the Double Click Here to Edit placeholder. This simply means that Studio has not yet updated the project. Click “save” and it should disappear. If any of this is unclear, please contact me directly and I’ll walk you through it :)

This is the part where I share a few of my recently published projects…

Chloe’s February 2012 Heritage Makers Newsletter

Happy LOVE month to you all! This is my fourth Valentine’s Day with Heritage Makers and I just LOVE the fun projects you can find in the Template Gallery. Here a couple of mine :)

The Valentine’s above were created using the 5×7″ invitation (prints double-sided). We send these out to a large number of family and friends, just for the heck of it! :) Even grown-ups get all warm and fuzzy when they open a sweet treat like this from their mailbox!

The “Owl Always…” booklet for Owen above (don’t worry, I made one for Ayden too!) was created using the Square Flip Book product (this is a spiral-bound book with heavy card stock pages). This was a super quick and easy (and inexpensive!) project idea for sweet projects like this! I used an existing template from the gallery which featured A LOT of pink, including a pink owl. It took me under an hour to change the book to blue (I think my boys will appreciate that and I even found the cute blue owl) and publish :)

The Valentine-themed shadow box project above uses the 11×14″ poster (and I select the UV coating option at checkout for added durability). The Template Gallery features these shadow box project already themed for the major holidays/events throughout the year.

And ON SALE this month are the Playing Card decks! The project above is straight out of the Template Gallery. I didn’t do anything other than grab the template, open it as my own project and click “publish”. It doesn’t get any easier than that! The deck of cards above spells out “Happy Valentine’s Day” twice and then it had just enough room for me to include “I love you”. Once I received them at home, I hole punched the cards and connected them with pretty sparkly string for a unique and eye-catching Valentine garland. You’ll receive 10% off at checkout on Playing Card decks in February with an active Club HM membership. If you haven’t yet discovered the ease and savings of Club HM, please watch the quick video below:

March is around the corner!
If you think Valentine’s Day is fun with Heritage Makers, then the St. Patrick’s Day projects take fun and creativity to another level. January Heritage Makers Newsletter

I don’t know about all of you, but I needed the first couple of weeks of January to recover from the holiday season. NOW I am ready to begin again with my Heritage Makers creations for 2012! In fact, I have committed to publishing 12 in 2012 – no less than one project a month. I’ve also finally whittled down the huge number of publishing points I’d been carrying in my HM account. I’m now down below 100 points in my account, the lowest it’s EVER been since I signed up as a consultant four Aprils ago! I’m considering upping the level of my Club HM membership from the 40 points for $30 plan, to the 70 points for $50 plan. God knows I’ll be burning through the points this year with all the projects I have in mind!

Make sure you check out the newly added art collections in the gallery this month. For obvious reasons, the focus is on Valentine’s Day, which is fast approaching! It’s not too soon to create adorable, custom Valentines for your kiddos to give out to their classmates, or a heartfelt personal greeting card for your hubby :) You can see what a search for the word “Valentine” results in HERE. No less than 219 project templates to choose from!

Last year I made a unique V-day card for each of my sweet boys:

We also sent V-day cards out to many of our friends:

If you’re looking for some time to set aside in your calendar for accomplishing some of these projects, please consider joining me and some of your fellow Heritage Makers at one of this month’s (always FREE)

Digicrops:

Sunday, Jan 22nd, 7pm @ Chloe’s home (South Beaverton near Murray and Scholls Ferry Rd)
OR
Thursday, Jan 26th, 7pm @ Carries’ home (Aloha near Aloha High School)

Please bring your WiFi capable laptop (if you don’t have one, we have a couple loaners – just mention it in your RSVP). Light snacks and refreshments will be available. If you’re an existing client, please bring one of your recently published projects to show off! :)
